Joy Thomas Foundation (JTF) is excited to host our 2nd annual “Women in STEM” event. This series of annual events is designed to connect STEM students and young professionals with mentors, expose them to STEM role models, and celebrate the journeys of fellow women as they pursue excellence in their STEM careers. 

 

JTF will present the 2nd Annual Joy Thomas Prize for STEM excellence to the best incoming woman engineering student, as ranked in the annual IIT Joint Entrance Exam (Advanced) 2022.

    Dr. Vidita Vaidya is Professor and Chair at the Dept of Biological Sciences at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai. Her primary research areas are the neurobiology of emotion and how it is modulated by life experience and psychotropic drugs. The Bhatnagar Award, the InfoSys Prize, and the Mentoring Award from Nature have recognized her scientific contributions. In addition to being an eminent neuroscientist, she is passionate about communicating science to a broad audience, and about inclusivity, fostering women's engagement in STEM.

  • Session 1: Getting Access to a Mentoring Ecosystem

    Speaker: Darshana Joshi 


    Dr. Joshi is a passionate Physicist, mentor, and social entrepreneur committed to recalibrating the gender balance in STEM disciplines and equity. She is building Vigyan Shala, India’s largest digital ecosystem for affordable mentoring and coaching for every aspiring  Girl In STEM. Dr. Joshi is keenly interested in designing low-cost pedagogical tools to promote interdisciplinary thinking and problem-solving among youth from the most marginalized communities.

  • Session 2: How to Ensure Career Success and Growth

    Speaker: Geeta Kannan 


    Geetha Kannan is an accomplished entrepreneurial leader and a pioneering voice in India for gender inclusivity in technology. She is an industry veteran with over 30 years of global experience in leadership roles at Infosys, ANZ, and Anita B.org. She is currently the founder and CEO of Wequity, an Indian-based startup that focuses on stemming the leaking pipeline of women in tech.

    Tanishka Kabra is the female topper of JEE Advanced 2022 (All-India Rank 16). She is a silver medal winner in the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO). Currently, pursuing BTech at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Tanishka loves music and writes songs in her spare time.

    Kavya Chopra is the first winner of the first Joy Thomas Prize in 2022. She completed is presently a sophomore at IIT Delhi majoring in Computer Science and Engineering. She is passionate about discovering new things, especially learning about up-and-coming domains in technology. She can be found, with coffee in hand, reading, or listening to Bollywood music.
